1. First Battle of Manassas Trail

The First Battle of Manassas Trail is a 5.2-mile walk that takes you through the significant events in Virginia history! As you walk along the historical trail (now part of the Manassas National Battlefield Park), you’ll encounter hikes for all levels of hiker.

Also on site are Henry Hill and the Stone House, which served as a temporary hospital. See the field where the Confederate and Union armies first clashed! 

2. Lee’s Woods Trail – Woodbridge

Enjoy the sunrise as you hike through Lee’s Woods Trail at Leesylvania State Park in Northern Virginia. You will see a naval cannon, a historic cemetery, and a Civil War fort during your tour. You can also enjoy the picturesque view of the fort situated on a large hill that overlooks the entire city.

3. Cedar Creek Trail – Natural Bridge

Natural Bridge State Park is home to an impressive 215-foot-tall limestone arch once owned by Thomas Jefferson. While you are traveling, stop at a Monacan Indian replica village. The exhibit features wigwams, trading posts, and a hide tanning demonstration. 

You can also stroll along the 1.9-mile Cedar Creek Trail to see George Washington’s initials.

4. Belle Isle Trail

In Richmond, Belle Isle offers 54 acres of enchanting natural beauty and includes the 1.2-mile Belle Isle Trail that meanders along the James River. Escape your daily routine and spend time on this island-bound to the city. 

There are exciting rapids and historic sites like a hydroelectric power plant, storage shed, and old mill of the Old Dominion Iron and Nail Company! Belle Isle held Union soldiers as prisoners of war during the Civil War.

5. Stuart’s Knob

Stuart’s Knob is one of the most historic Northern Virginia hiking trails worth visiting! This hiking path contains three trails that give you sweeping views and old mine ruins to view. Keep an eye out for Stuart’s Knob mines signage in Fayerdale.
